Kaviza, the folks that won the “Best of Synergy 2010″ award in the Business Efficiency cateogy, have just released “VDI-in-a-box 3.0″ featuring Citrix HDX technology and full support for XenServer. It’s a simple plug-and-play desktop virtualization solution designed specifically for SMEs and departmental budgets. Since it doesn’t require shared storage or multiple management servers, Kaviza says VDI-in-a-box 3.0 can deliver virtual desktops at a total cost of under $500 per user (minimum 25 users). And since Kaviza is licensed to use Citrix HDX technology, VDI-in-a-box delivers an uncompromised “high definition” user experience. Kudos to Kaviza!

Technical Skills o Extensive skills with Citrix Products and Technologies and/or competitive and relevant technologies. o Knowledge of server and desktop virtualization. o Extensive skills with Windows Networking, Active Directory, GPO. o Advanced Networking concepts (TCP/IP, Routing, Firewalls, Network Security) Requirements (Education, Certification, Training, and Experience) o 1-3 yrs experience as virtualization SE, Consulting Manager, or equivalent experience. o Willing to travel 50% of the time with 70-80% of this travel within the GEO for GEO-based roles. o The following certifications preferred: CCIA, CCEE, CCEA, CCA, MCSE/MCITP. o Specific knowledge for the qualified candidate would include: o Extensive XenApp, XenDesktop, NetScaler, or XenServer hands-on. Additional Qualifications and Requirements * Application Development, SQL, and/or scripting experience a plus * Citrix CCI a plus. The posts are abuzz this morning with new thaton on Feb. 23 Citrix will announce that it will be offering free licenses to its full XenServer virtualization program and new partnering with Microsoft to provide system management, Citrix Essentials, for Hyper-V and, in return, Microsoft’s System Center will support XenServer

Steven Vaughn-Nichols detailed the Citrix plans on his personal blog. Apparently Citrix briefed a bevy of bloggers about its plan under embargo, but the presentation is flying around in various in-boxes. Vaughn-Nichols notes that Citrix won’t open source XenServer, however.

I can’t wait to see VMwares stock price today…..
